Hello to all you readers,
And thanks for tuning in , I would also like to say thanks to everyone for all your emails and questions I will as usual try to get through as many as possible,
Steven smith office manager and compliance officer for Essex Chelmsford,
Steven.smith@ukprotectionservices.net
Firstly, welcome aboard to Adam Ince,
The new area manager for South End On Sea, UKPS sales and marketing ,well what a busy 2 months for all staff at UKPS with Sept and October over with the return of all the student intakes UKPS has had its busiest ever year so far in 2013 with high sales with CarPark Management enquiries to event and door security up, we now hit the question to all the managers what's in store for November and December the general feel I got ,,,,,was a big business push in the Midlands with the CP management and the north a big push for guarding security,,
{SIA Business} SIA launch !!!! approved operators scheme business tax ,,, here we go the new SIA ACS. Biz tax has essentially been launched and companies will need to go through and meet approved status criteria this we believe will enhance the waning security industry with higher standards , in compliance with employees and company standards , but I asked the question would it be effective in the costings and by this I mean the companies , like the night club and pub industry the licence industry in general ,, would it mean security companies would charge a higher rate to claim back the SIA business tax or would the money mean less money for door staff { i.e. minimum wage being implemented } we believe the industry needs as much help as possible as pubs and night clubs are shutting down by the day all over the UK and over the last 3 years thousands have ended up in the insolvency courts , due to high demands with the licence industry with staff, economical issues and even the smoking ban certainly hasn't helped , and as we all know our poor pub culture is almost on the scrap heap surely , things need to be relaxed from that point of view ,,,, and licensed conditions need to be assisted from a economical point of view,, as I've stated the business cost from the SIA hasn't been agreed as yet? but I would say be cautious with the costings ,,, because if security companies raise their fees to the licence trade ,, then it will have a knock on effect or if they reduce their rates to door staff then standards will drop and the waning industry will fail and as we know the Olympic security targets where not met , but this time as with the security measures at the Olympics we won't be able to call on the british army to bail us all out ,,,,, alls we are saying is think things through and cater for the end user ,,,,,, i.e. the pub owners club owners and of course the member of public / the customer everyone is catering for,,,, yes standards are essential to be raised but practical administration is an absolute ,we must be aware that the world is different to five ten or twenty years ago people haven't got the money they once had and price is always an issue alongside the good old experience which is gained by socialising in a licensed premises,, and if things are not carefully laid out with new costings it could indeed push that bit to much because cost always has to come out somewhere, we agree that Accreditations /Approvals /Qualifications /and higher standards must be reached for and attained ,,,but must be done on a sensible scheme ,,, where prices and administration don't out weigh the end user and in this case the good old customer ,,,,/ member of the public , I would also like to add that compliance and audits {and all the above} cost the security companies large amounts of money ,,,and what we must see is balance of all aspects of DS work and security work or we risk what happened to the Olympics ,,,over reached with red tape and not getting the job done!!!!!!!! Let's hope that's the powers that be have a practical approach ,,

UKPS NW ltd, a view from an all rounder,,,,,Jay thomas.,
Hello James well how's it feel to be a doorman an events manager and a car park operative ,,,Jay. Well I enjoy my job especially when we've got events on, and it involves car park marshalling and keeping people safe ,,, I enjoy working with people I've always really enjoyed the event ,, Carnage in Manchester and in Liverpool I've also worked this event in the Yorkshire area for the last few years , I've worked for UKPS it feels forever I worked for Shaune back in the 90s when we was SAS Securities when we only did doors and body guarding but as we've evolved over the years I believe we offer a service second to none I've had my ups and downs but overall its been brilliant I just wish I could take on more areas as UKPS is expanding big time and I feel people like myself and the other old school lads have paved the way for all the newer guys but still, I'm dead happy as I always get well looked after and if I've any problems or anything that's a bit different I have fantastic support system at home or the team in preston or even Essex ,,,,,{as your career as been over two decades where do you see yourself in the future} ,,, Jay} for the foreseeable I'm totally happy with my circumstances and I know Shaune is starting other enterprises in the same field and as asks me for my opinion and advice on various levels so I know my services are safe I can't say to much but I'm heavily involved with the other company and getting my shares so I'm over the moon onwards an upwards,,,,I trust the management at UKPS and now I will becoming one of them I will conduct myself as I've been always treated professional and fair , so its a great starting point for me , { thanks Jay on answering our questions and I wish you all the very best for your future,
A view from a good all rounder,

An email /question from Cynthia Marks in Bedford,
Dear Steve UKPS, can you explain to me why some people who do not live at our complex in Bedford, I see people parking their cars with a valid parking permit and leaving for work in a morning how is this happening? is there anyway I can tell the management company !!! And how is it that at least 2 have permits , please could you help me and advise us ,
Hello Cynthia thank-you for your email firstly I've looked into your questions and what I've found out is that people at your complex have passed permits on to either friends or possibly relatives and have abused the permit system this is what we believe is happening the property management group are requesting proof of ownership of all tenants cars and what the company should of perhaps done initially is confirmed all the registrations with ownership documents before issuing the permits and they should of recorded that registration directly to the permit with a company stamp, this weeds out the abuse from the consumer basically all cars that are in the allotted compound are true tenants of the property ,,,and if any cars are not registered via the correctly filled in permit to the vehicle it will be issued a parking charge notice ,,,,, for invalid permit on display ,,,I hope this helps Cynthia I've also notified the CP section and they say that things have been escalated from our end ,,,and all creases will be ironed out,
Thanks again to everyone for tuning in and thank-you to everyone with your positive emails ,
Many thanks ,
Steven Smith, compliance for {UKPS NW ltd}

Question,, Marcia Smith colchester,
Hello Steve/ukps I have a question for you we have a car that parks at 7pm at night and leaves at around 7am 2 or 3 times a week without a permit ,I know that UKPS works round the clock but we don't seem to be able to catch this person who keeps parking without a permit I know he parks out of the main office time 8am till 6pm ish what can we do to stop this person parking willy nilly without a care in the world,,
Answer ,, hello Marcia thanks for your interest in our news monthly and I will try to answer your question accordingly, Firstly we do have intelligence sheets as and when our schemes ring in and tell us about someone who is rogue parking what we do as a company is we can record any out of hours information and send a unit to the allotted area if the problem isn't picked up with the regular patrolled units, we will gather all information at hand and respond to the intel ,, usually we get a good result and complete the action , for our clients , we also have a 24hr out of hour email address , which reports can be sent to our round the clock team ,,,, which is office@ukprotectionservices.net and the email must say REPORT then the relevant intelligence and details etc , and hopefully we will catch the rogue vehicle we have a very high success rate from ticket to the windscreen and then payment, but if no payment is received in the allotted time then the debt collection department will press for payment,, and failing that we activate our ongoing UKPS legal division solicitor ellen court partnership to start court proceedings and this can end up with a CCI being issued if the parking case hasn't been resolved ,,,,I hope this helps marcia I've also passed all your details to our very own Ian Wade in Essex and I've asked him to touch base with your scheme and to up the patrols in your area ,
A big congratulation to the Head office in. preston in securing a 3 year contract with 15x more schemes with mainstay properties ranging in the areas bedford , catsby grange, birmingham, coventry ,and leigh wigan ,blackpool and preston ,, I think that we've received over 3000 more spaces attached to these properties thanks to stu, and debbie from mainstay properties ,, a big well done to Tracy A , in pulling this brilliant contract off ,, what can we say leading from the front as usual,,,and showing the sales team how its done ,,,,
Also welcome to the new owners of the park hotel in lancaster I'm sure we will have a great relationship with you both as we've had with the previous owners ,also all the best to richard the previous owner in your new pursuits and endeavours whatever you do next you will excel in as you always have done we at UKPs will miss you very much ,,, keep in touch and don't party to hard in the costa del sol,
Anyway readers, I hope you have enjoyed the news we've published and yet again sorry for our delay in publication and don't forget keep tuned to around the 28th of every month,,if you want to be mentioned or have any questions contact infor@ukparkingservices.net and put for the attention of steve smith,,, with your request or questions,

By Steven Smith, Chelmsford Essex office manager/compliance officer.
Hello to all Readers,
Thanks again to all your responses from last months news page, I will try to get through as many questions and news as possible.
Point 1 - Firstly thank-you to everyone who responded to us in last months edition we will try and publish at least one point of view each month from one of our readers/staff/clients.
Point 2 - Congratulations to all the 18 x security/door supervisors who passed their advanced first aid course, more certificates on the way well done lads!
Point 3 - A big thank-you to the team building event in Essex in July, way to go lads and ladies can't wait for the next paint ball session score so far {Essex UKPS 3 v Lancs UKPS 2} come on UKPS Lancs I thought you were definite winners and no way could the South win !!!!!! Better luck next time
Point 4 - A look at James Jacksons ops manager for UKPS NW Manchester.
A - 12x more CCJ'S being issued by our legal team, Ellen Court Partnership, for none payment of UKPS parking charge notices! We have been issuing court proceeding/CCJ'S for the minority of the charges that don't get paid to our collections division at UKPS for PCNS but I asked was this common place and the ops manager James Jackson commented that we only issue when the offender who has received the ticket, adamantly states he won't pay then we get the ball rolling and push hard towards the court option. James did mention that most people say 85% plus always pay and we don't have problems in receiving payments, it's just a small percentage that think they can get away with it, so this has proved a fabulous way in ensuring we always get payment and in the end if the motorist goes down the court route it often costs a lot more for the vehicle owner so we definitely feel the first option of sixty pounds is always better for the motorist.
B - I asked James how do you find working in a industry where payments are constantly being chased and people do their up most to get out of paying, James replies with a smile and explains he loves giving the news to the appellant that they have won their appeal he says I get job satisfaction its nice to get real appreciation off genuine people ,and the people who lose their appeal well we have a very strict and very fair system and we work on a point of law and people know that we work in all the guidelines set out by the ATA bodies of the parking industry. We pride ourselves in being fair and professional this is why we are the fastest growing carpark management company. In the North West we have over 400 hundred customers who we have repeat sales time and time again and over 800 car parks. I remember all the training I received when I first joined UKPS and I honestly and truthfully thought why on earth do you need all this training from conflict management to phone stress training to advance uplifting in morals and marketing the list goes on and on. Well now I'm in management I know why I needed all of the training, its absolutely essential in a fruitful and healthy balance of a buisness life and my hope is to pass on to the new employees and to constructively help UKPS both from the inside and out, and to push to new levels in the parking industry, a big thankyou to Shaune and Tracy Ashworth owners of UKPS and a special thanks to ian wade Essex, area manager, and Simon, general ops for UKPS in all my training

From Audrey Welch {Manchester Kearsley}
Dear UKPS, I firstly would like to say that some of your units in Manchester Kearsley area, seem stricter than others why do some of the UKPS vehicles do different things to others? Like for e.g. one of the units on a Sun a few weeks ago was explaining that our permits must always be on show, and one of the older chaps who works for UKPS turned round when I ran out of my house to put my permit in my second vehicle I was using from work said to me he knows that this car was your second vehicle not to worry about the permit as he knew it was a permitted vehicle. Can you please cast some light on this please Steven?
Well I have checked with the CP section and they have said if you are entitled to a second permit you must contact your landlord or land management company or housing association and yes >strong>you must always display your permit while your car is on land monitored and controlled by UKPS. We have sent a memo out to all front line staff as to make sure that the correct information is passed to all tenants and customers of all of the car parks we monitor.
Thank you for your question Audrey we are always hear to help, if you need any more advice please call our office on 01772828364 or you can contact our 24hr email line, on office@ukprotectionservices.net and put FAO of Sherry.
Please note, if anyone has a question or any points you want to raise we can look at publishing it in our monthly news, please send to info@ukparkingservices.net and please put for the attention of Steven Smith/News Page UKPS NW Ltd
Anyway we hope you have enjoyed our monthly news page stay tuned, we publish around 28th of every month.

July 2013
Introduction by our news editor, Steven Smith, office manger/compliance officer for (UKPS NW Ltd Chelmsford, Essex)
Dear readers,
I have had numerous calls asking for UKPS to write up a monthly news report, as we have so many public usages as for example housing association, public buildings and many, many housing schemes and private organisations throughout the country that use UKPS NW Ltd.
We have set a date, for around the 28th of every month, that our news paper will be published and updated with all sorts of interesting facets from industry news to general news with parking, in general any changes which are relevant in the parking sector and security sector and also good old news about the advance of UKPS throughout the country which I must say is going from strength to strength. I will also pick on one of our area managers for an article so no one is safe. I must add Shaune Ashworth my MD has appointed me for this task and I must say I'm looking forward to the challenge, anyway without further a do here is our first proper news monthly.
Steven Smith news monthly for UKPS NW Ltd
Point 1 - UKPS NW Ltd buys out nationwide car park management company and adds 3 major areas to our existing portfolio of over 800 car parks - well done Glen for brokering the deal.
Point 2 - UKPS NW Ltd goes into joint venture with Ellen Court partnership as our official legal team.
Point 3 - UKPS NW Ltd completes our audit by the BPA as AOS approved operators for carpark management for the year 2012 to 2013 and members of the BPA.
Point 4 - UKPS NW Ltd is now eligible and qualified to aid hospitals with productivity of their land to help them with enforcement and practical applications in reducing problems with traffic management and to help with health and safety after gaining our HPC (Hospital Parking Charter) with the British Parking Association - thanks to Ian Wade, London area.
Point 5 - UKPS NW Ltd is also eligible and qualified to aid education authorities e.g. schools, colleges and universities with productivity of their land to help them with enforcement and the practical applications in reducing problems with traffic management and to help with overall heath and safety, after gaining our HFE Award (Higher and Further Education charter) with the British Parking Association thanks to Ian Wade, Area Manager London and Tracy Ashworth Ops Director for UKPS NW Ltd.
Point 6 - UKPS NW Ltd proudly announces that we have more housing associations under contract than any other car park management company in the whole of the UK! This was confirmed by an independent poll conducted over 6 months. The results have been passed down to us as a congratulation and to keep up the good work from the audit team, and of course we were over the moon with this news! So congratulations to everyone at UKPS carpark sector in making all this possible. Keep up the great work!
Point 7 - UKPS has taken out an add with the BPA (British Parking Association) for 12 months of advertising in their magazine. May we add we are the only northern company in north west to have done this... come on you other companies in the north get stuck in!!
Point 8 - Industry news: bailiff reforms are under way; bailiff sector to become more professional, more restriction in the way they conduct themselves and more of a transparency trail, I say its about time. They have had a poor reputation in the past with the wrong image, and its important that they understand that the economy has had a lot of problems and patience is a must from these people and due diligence.
Point 9 - A point of view by Andy Hardie, PCN Manager and assistant office manager
"While working for UKPS I have found attributes that I never realised I had until the management at UKPS noticed these and nurtured and trained me to a high level that I am today. I must say that without the structure and training that the in house training team teach you, I would never of gone further with my training/education especially as I am over 50 years of age. I have never worked for such a professional and focused company as I do now it's a breath of fresh air with all the team work that goes on with the team in general. I am looking forward to many more years of service with Shaune and Tracy Ashworth, the directors Of UKPS, and I will be striving towards my share package and striving for higher goals"
Thank-you for believing in me,
Andy Hardie
Point 10 - If any of our readers would like to add to any topics or for us to put anything in our news page please email info@ukparkingservices.net and please put for the attention of Steven Smith/News Page
Many thanks and please note our news page will get published on the 28th of every month stay tuned...
